Clyde Ewing died at the age of 94 on Oct. 27, 2013 at home at Country Meadows Assisted Care in Woodburn.by: SUBMITTED - Clyde Ewing

Clyde was born Sept. 19, 1919 in Los Angeles to Clyde and Shirley (Mitchell) Ewing, Sr. He had fond memories of time spent in Gilroy, Calif., farming and then later running a dairy farm.

In 1939, Clyde married Vennett “Vee” Albert and went to work for the Southern California Gas Co. where his maternal grandfather had worked for 28 years. In 1943 he quit to become a firefighter. Clyde enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944. In March of that year he shipped out on the U.S.S. Casablanca, CVE55 and served in the South Pacific until the end of World War II. Clyde and Vee divorced in 1959.

He married Barbara Seymour in Phoenix, Ariz. on Dec. 28, 1960.

Clyde worked for the L.A. County Fire Dept. for 28 yrs., retiring as a captain in 1971.

After retiring, he and his family moved to Joseph, where they lived for 18 years. His favorite pastimes while in Joseph were hunting, fishing and golfing. Clyde and Barbara then settled in Woodburn in 1988, where they continued to golf regularly and he began to research his family history.

Clyde belonged to the VFW and Elks Club.

Clyde is survived by his children, Shirley Underwood of Banning, Calif., Richard Ewing of Federal Way, Wash., and Linda Muilenburg of Redmond, Wash. He is also survived by his brothers, Bill Botelho, James Ewing, Robert Ewing; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara and brother Walter.

Private interment at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
