Woodburn 63, Madison 43

The Bulldogs won their season-opener Wednesday at Madison High School and are scheduled to host North Salem (0-0). Woodburn (1-0) travels to Hood River Friday to participate in the Hood River?Valley Tournament this weekend.

North Marion, Elmira - Canceled

The Huskies’ season-opener against Elmira scheduled for Friday was cancelled. North Marion (0-0) will host Ridgeview (0-0) in both teams’ season-opener this Friday.

Riverdale 47, Gervais 33

The Lady Cats lost their season opener on the road at Riverdale High School and had their home-opener against Delphian canceled Friday night.

Gervais (0-1) was scheduled to host Kennedy (2-0) on Tuesday, followed by a Friday game against City?Christian (0-1) at the Silver Cross Tournament hosted by East Linn Christian School this weekend.

St. Paul 40, Scio 39

The Buckaroos picked up where they left off last season with a road victory over the 3A Loggers Thursday night to start the season.

St. Paul (1-0) was scheduled to host Valley Catholic (1-0) Tuesday, followed by a Friday game against Powder Valley (1-1) in the opening round of the Condon?Christmas Tournament. The Bucks will play Saturday against Condon/Wheeler (2-0).

Boys

Gaston 55, Kennedy 53

In Wednesday’s season opener, the Trojans led 47-40 with six minutes left against Gaston before the Greyhounds scored 12 straight points to take a 52-47 lead with 48 seconds left. Mark Unrein stopped the Gaston streak after getting fouled on a 3-point attempt and hit all three free throws to pull within two points.

Gaston hit 1-of-2 at the line on their next possession. The Trojans’ Jacob Lopez hauled in the rebound on the missed free throw and was fouled, going 1-of-2 at the line. Max Jaeger gathered in Lopez’s miss at the line and scored to tie the game at 53-53 with 16 seconds left. The Greyhounds scored with five seconds left, giving the Trojans one last opportunity to win or tie the game. Senior guard Dalton Susee took the inbound pass, dribbled up the left sideline to the right elbow, but was caught in traffic and attempted to pass out, causing a loose ball as time expired.

In the Trojans’ second game of the week, Kennedy trailed 43-42 at the end of the third quarter before Country Christian pulled away in the final minutes. Brett Traeger and Lopez led the team with 19 points each against the Cougars. Blake Traeger added eight for the Trojans

The Trojans (0-2) were scheduled to play Tuesday at Gervais (0-1), followed by hosting Elgin (0-1) Friday in the opening game of the JFK?Basketball Classic.

Riverdale 67, Gervais 44

The Cougars kept it close in the first half in the season-opening road game against the Mavericks, but were outscored 42-20 over the final two periods to fall to 0-1 on the season.

Juniors Kylor Kelley and Sergei Cam led Gervais with 10 points each. Kelley added 10 rebounds and five blocks for the Cougars. Senior Adam Jaramillo scored eight points, and seniors Austin Garcia and Lazaro Villegas pulled in seven rebounds each.

The Cougars (0-1) were scheduled to play their home-opener Tuesday against Kennedy (0-2), followed by a Friday game against City Christian (0-1) in the opening game of the Silver Cross Tournament this weekend at East Linn Christian School.

North Marion, Elmira - Canceled

The Huskies’ season-opener against Elmira scheduled for Friday was canceled.

The Buckaroos were off last week. The team will travel to Condon High School Friday to open the season against Powder Valley (2-0) in opening round of the Condon Christmas Tournament. St. Paul (0-0) will play Condon/Wheeler (1-1) Saturday.
