Portlanders are advised to use caution when driving for the next few days.

A winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service remains in effect from Thursday morning until 4 a.m. on Friday morning.

Heavy, blowing snow is expected by mid-day on Thursday and should continue until Friday morning. The NWS is predicting an accumulation of 3-7 inches -- especially in the southern and western parts of Portland. East winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected with gusts of up to 35 mph.

In other parts of the state, Oregon State Police have already responded to multiple crashes on Interstate 5 between Albany and Salem due to hazardous road and weather conditions. Southbound traffic was being diverted off of the freeway at milepost 238 as of 9 a.m., Thursday morning.

Later, at 10:26 a.m., OSP reported that I-5 southbound was blocked by a jacknifed semi-truck.
