The Bowmen squads beat Putnam to move to 3-0

The Bowmen squads picked up their third straight sweep in conference contests, as they bested Rex Putnam in a Northwest Oregon Conference dual meet held April 16 at Rex Putnam High School.

The Sherwood boys upped their conference record to 3-0 by posting an 85-60 win over the Kingsmen.

Bowmen junior Ben Milligan continued his strong season in the high jump by winning that event at last week's dual meet with a height of 6 feet, 4 inches.

Sherwood senior Tyler Thayer picked up wins in both hurdles races. Thayer triumphed in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 44.12 seconds and he won the 300 intermediate hurdles with a mark of 44.12.

Also on the track, Bowmen senior Hunter Pfefferkorn sprinted to victory in the 200 in 22.61. Senior Cole Nixon won the 400 in 52.46. Senior Olsen Cottle had a winning time of 2:06.47 in the 800 and junior Joshua Moats triumphed in the 1,500 in 4:33.73.

In the 4 x 400 relay, the Sherwood team of Cottle, Nixon, Pfefferkorn and senior Nic Clarke picked up a victory in a time of 3:40.09.

In the field events, Sherwood senior Garrett Tremain won the shot put with a throw of 43-5. Freshman Brady Pierce won the discus with a mark of 120-2 and junior Austin Goldstein had a winning toss of 172-11 in the javelin.

The Sherwood girls moved to 3-0 in conference meets by posting a 112-28 win over Rex Putnam.

Lady Bowmen senior Elyse Cuthbertson continued her dominance in the throwing events, picking up three more victories in the meet. Cuthbertson triumphed in the shot put with a mark of 35-9, she won the discus at 110-6 and she had a winning throw of 114-6 in the javelin.

Sherwood junior Mikala Otto picked up a pair of wins in the jumps. She took first place in the long jump with a mark of 15-8.75 and she had a winning distance of 34-0.5 in the triple jump.

The Sherwood girls were also impressive on the track.

Lady Bowmen junior Emily Johansen sprinted to victory in the 100 in 12.95. Senior Marina Parker won the 200 in 27.68, freshman Lindy Voss ran to victory in the 800 in 2:45.28, junior Madison Budge had a winning time of 5:19.54 in the 1,500 and junior Rebekah Quaglio won the 100 high hurdles in 17.42.

Sherwood freshman Helena Elkins won the high jump with a mark of 4-6.

The Bowmen teams also competed at the Oregon Relays, held Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene.

For the Sherwood boys, Pfefferkorn finished in third place in the 400 in 49.48. Milligan cleared 6-2 to take fourth place in the high jump.

For the Sherwood girls, Cuthbertson was fifth in the shot put with a mark of 37-5.25. She took fifth place in the javelin with a throw of 121-10 and she finished seventh in the discus at 117-0.

The Sherwood teams were slated to face rival Wilsonville in a conference dual meet on Wednesday. Results of that meet weren't available when The Times went to press.

The Bowmen squads will be back in action on Saturday, when they compete at the Centennial Invitational, which is set to start at 11 a.m. at Centennial High School in Gresham.
