Man killed in Molalla domestic violence standoff

A 36-year-old Molalla man was shot and killed early Monday morning during an hours-long standoff with Clackamas County SWAT officers at a home in the 30000 block of South Highway 213.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said Shane Griffin died at the house following an exchange of gunfire with SWAT members.

Deputies were called to the house at about 10:08 p.m. Sunday, July 6, to investigate a domestic disturbance. The person who called 911 told emergency dispatchers that the man had threatened to use several firearms in the incident.

The victim fled the house with the couple’s children. Deputies began talking with the man in the house, trying to get him to surrender. Just before 2 a.m., the county’s SWAT officers made contact with the man inside the house and shots were fired, killing the man.

Highway 213 was closed for several hours during the incident.
