23-year West Linn resident seeking third term
City Council President Jody Carson announced Monday she will run for re-election, joining fellow councilor Mike Jones on the November ballot.
My years of experience and willingness to listen to different viewpoints helps me understand what's important to those who call West Linn home, Carson said. I want to continue to address long-term issues that we face as a community.
Carson, who was first elected in 2006 and re-elected in 2010, has lived in West Linn since 1991 and also serves on the South Fork Water Board, the Regional Water Consortium, the Metro Policy Advisory Committee and the Clackamas County Mental Health and Addictions Advisory Council. She is co-chairwoman of the Willamette Falls Heritage Area Coalition and a founding member of the Willamette Falls Heritage Foundation.
She previously served as a West Linn Planning Commissioner and Willamette Neighborhood Association President.
In deciding to run for re-election, Carson cited the ongoing arch bridge-Bolton planning project as a top priority.
This area is integral to the entire city, Carson said, And how it redevelops will impact all the citizens of West Linn.
Replacing the 100-year old Bolton Reservoir, as well as the citys water pipes and dilapidated streets, also ranked as one of Carsons top priority.
Having lived here for 23 years I have a vested interest in seeing these projects move forward for all our citizens, Carson said. My goal is to carefully manage our funds while protecting and enhancing the qualities that make West Linn a special place for all of us.
Carson has a bachelors degree in nursing from Pacific Lutheran University and a masters degree in social work from the University of Denver. She works as a manager of healthcare quality review at Acumentra Health.
Jones filed for re-election July 28.
Filing to run in the Nov. 4 election opened June 4, and the deadline to turn in the candidate filing form to the city recorder is Aug. 19. The deadline to file a statement of candidate follows shortly thereafter Aug. 28.
West Linn Mayor John Kovash and councilors Jenni Tan and Thomas Frank are each midway through terms that end Dec. 31, 2016.
