The Portland Police Bureau reported that one of its officers was arrested in Gresham.
Sgt. James McMurray, 43, an 18-year-veteran of the Portland force, was off-duty when he crashed his car just after 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 7 near Southeast 190th Avenue and Southwest 31st Street. McMurray faces charges for DUII alcohol, reckless driving and two counts of second-degree criminal mischief. Gresham police said in a statement that McMurray's 2014 Jetta hit a fire hydrant, fence and yard near the 3100 block of Southeast 190th Drive.
No one was injured but the crash caused about $5,000 in damage, according to Gresham police. A Gresham sergeant was first on the scene and McMurray is reported to have been cooperative with the investigation.
Sgt. Pete Simpson of the Portland Police Bureau said McMurray has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation and internal review, which will go to the bureau's Performance Review Board.
