Summer concerts ready to stir up zoo

The B-52s bring their infectious dance party back to the Oregon Zoo stage on Aug. 13 as part of the zoo's summer concert series.

Mark your calendars now for the Oregon Zoo's 32nd annual concert series.

The list of musical acts at the beautiful Zoo venue has been released, and includes pop crooner Chris Isaak, the dance-partying B-52sPortland's Pink Martini, a slew of Wednesday "ZooTunes" shows and a live performance of the popular radio show "A Prairie Home Companion."

Presented by NW Natural and KINK-FM, it's the longest continuously running outdoor concert series in the Northwest, with events staged as fans sit on the lawn among giant fir trees and with animals in their zoo environment as the backdrop. Tickets go on sale April 28 at and the Zoo.

Concerts will be held Wednesday through Sunday evenings in July and August, all scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

This year's "ZooBeat" premium shows include:

Jimmy Cliff, July 23; Levon Helm, Aug. 8; Chris Isaak, Aug. 14; Jamie Cullum, July 25; the B-52s, Aug. 13; Pink Martini, Aug. 26 and 27, and "A Prairie Home Companion, Aug. 28.

The "ZooTunes" concerts include:

Konono No. 1 and the Carolina Chocolate Drops, July 7; Caravan Place, July 14; Bassekou Kouyate, July 21; Great Big Sea, July 28; Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, Aug. 4; Cross Canadian Ragweed, Aug. 11, and the Quebe Sisters, Aug. 18.
