Women get to rock at rock n roll camp

The group that hosts rock 'n' roll music camps for girls will open a program for women, 19 and older, during the Ladies Rock Camp, Oct. 22 to 24.

The Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls, a Northeast Portland nonprofit organization, seeks to build self-esteem through music creation and performance. Its theme for the ladies camp: 'Do you wish Rock Camp was around when you were a kid?'

During the weekend, women will receive instrument instruction, form a band, write an original song and perform at the Oct. 24 Ladies Rock Camp finale.

All levels of musical skill and experience are encouraged to attend. Women can choose from learning the drums, bass, keyboards, vocals and guitar.

Orientation is noon Friday, Oct. 22. A Saturday night karaoke party is a highlight.

Tuition for the camp is $375. Proceeds support the programs offered by the Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls. It'll be at the Rock Camp, 8900 'A' N.E. Vancouver Way.
