2 fugitives arrested in Clatskanie after police search

Two fugitives wanted in connection to Washington state warrants were arrested Wednesday morning by Clatskanie police with the assistance of state, county and other local police agencies.

Vanessa Vaughn, 34, and Ricky Gene Smiley, 38, were both booked into Columbia County Jail.

The events leading to their arrest started on March 16 at approximately 8:30 a.m. when the Clatskanie Police Department requested help from area law enforcement agencies to locate a potentially dangerous person wanted out of Skamania County, Wash. on felony warrants.

The Oregon State Police SWAT team and troopers from Astoria and St. Helens, Columbia County and Clatsop County deputies and St. Helens police responded to the scene.

At approximately 11 a.m., officers spotted a stolen vehicle believed to be in possession by the wanted person leaving a residence in the 36000 block of Hanhi Drive west of Clatskanie and stopped it a short distance away.

The vehicle was occupied by two people - Vaughn and Sadewasser - who were arrested without further incident after their identities were determined.

No weapons were found on either person or in the vehicle.
