A 36-year-old man is being held on charges connected to a Wednesday night accident that killed a 47-year-old woman who was crossing the street in Northeast Portland.
Portland police arrested Aaron Arrell at a motel near Northeast Sandy Boulevard and 97th Avenue after finding the 1993 Mercury Villager van that was involved in the fatal hit-and-run accident abandoned near Northeast Alberta Street and 82nd Avenue.
Police said the victim was Lori Noelle Kerr of Portland.
Arrell was charged with first-degree manslaughter and hit and run. He was lodged in the Multnomah County Jail.
Police said the accident happened at about 11 p.m. when Kerr was struck by a van on Northeast 91st Avenue near Sandy Boulevard. The van drove away from the crash, leaving Kerr injured in the street.
Major Crash Team investigators searching the area found the Mercury Villager van with front-end damage on Alberta Street and traced it to Arrell, who was staying in a motel on Sandy Boulevard.
Police said the van was traveling west on Sandy Boulevard when it struck Kerr and then fled the crash scene.
Local streets were blocked for several hours while police investigated the accident.
