Beaverton School Board sets date for superintendent selection
District leaders are expected to approve a contract after spring break
The Beaverton School District will soon know who its new superintendent will be.
The Beaverton School Board will reveal its choice Monday, March 28, during a business meeting at Elmonica Elementary School, 16950 S.W. Lisa St.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. During the meeting, the board is expected to make its selection and approve a contract.
A press conference and reception to introduce the future district leader to the community will follow the action at 7 p.m.
The executive search firm Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates has worked with the board to identify and hire a superintendent to replace Superintendent Jerry Colonna, who is retiring in June after eight years leading the school district and 44 years in public education.
Hank Gmitro, one of the firm's consultants, said that 31 candidates started the application process for Beaverton schools' top job. His firm also reached out to recruit 12 additional potential leaders.
The consultant team then reviewed all the applications, interviewed 15 candidates and narrowed the field to five individuals for the board to consider bringing in for two rounds of interviews.
Although those candidates were not publicly named, School Board Chairman Tom Quillin said, 'We had a strong set of applicants.'
