Ducks score another big one: Grand Floral Parade grand marshal
Get ready to do a little Yell-O-ing during June's 2011 Spirit Mountain Casino Grand Floral Parade.
The Portland Rose Festival said Friday that the University of Oregon Ducks football team would be the parade's grand marshal.
The parade is at 10 a.m. June 11 through downtown Portland.
'Both our organizations have been working for a hundred years to bring positive recognition to Oregon,' says Sue Bunday, 2011 Portland Rose Festival Foundation president. 'Fans are going to be so excited to see the team riding down the parade route on the University of Oregon float. We expect the Ducks to hear fans yelling 'O' for the entire 4.2-mile trip.'
The Ducks went 12-1 during the 2010 NCAA Bowl Championship Division football season. Under head coach Chip Kelly, the team won its second consecutive Pac-10 league title and lost 22-19 to the Auburn Tigers in the national championship game.
'Our football team proudly represented the university and the state of Oregon at the national championship game, the pinnacle of collegiate athletics,' says University of Oregon President Richard Lariviere. 'To serve as the grand marshal of an event with so much Oregon history is a great way to celebrate the team and entire university.'
