Washington County deputies charge resident; district attorney drops charges
Washington County Sheriff's Office public information officer David Thompson confirmed March 18 that deputies arrested a person in connection with fires set at the Royal Villas mobile home park in 2009 and 2010.
Deputies arrested a Royal Villas resident, Francisca Tyrrel, 62, on Jan. 27, 2011, charging her with two counts of second-degree arson and one count of first-degree arson.
On the day she was arrested, she was lodged overnight in the Washington County Jail.
Thompson said that the next day, the district attorney dropped the charges, and she was released from jail.
Residents of Royal Villas, which is located on Pacific Highway across from King City, reported about two dozen fires being set during the summer and fall of 2009, and another was set July 9, 2010.
Most of the fires were set in bushes and on walkways, and one was set in a tree.
Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue personnel held two town hall meetings in the park in the fall of 2009 to discuss the issue, and firefighters went door to door to offer more information and provide safety tips.
A reward of $5,000 was offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or people responsible for the fires.
'The investigation is ongoing,' said Thompson, who added that he believes Tyrrel is no longer living in the park.
