Braxton Sue second at state tournament

Wrestler earns berth in nationals
by: John Brewington RUNNER-UP–Scappoose’s Braxton Sue took second at the Middle School State wrestling tournament.

Three of the four Scappoose Middle School wrestlers that went on to the Middle School State Tournament in Woodburn placed in the competition.

Top effort came from Braxton Sue with a second-place finish in the 75-pound class. Sue was the only wrestler to qualify for nationals.

Devin Ray and Cody Jackson each finished third in the tournament, just missing the finals. Ray wrestles at 220 pounds and Jackson at 85. Johnathan Tardif (115 pounds) was seventh overall.

The tournament is put on by an association not affiliated with the Oregon School Activities Association high school tournaments.

The wrestlers qualified for state at a regional tournament a week earlier. The actual middle school wrestling season locally was held earlier in the winter season. While waiting for state and regional the wrestlers worked out at the USA Cobra Club and were coached by Scott Revis, Dave Geiger, and Paul Connellly.
