Like father like son, Joneses develop dual physical therapy careers

Like father, like son? In the case of Rick and Jared Jones, that's definitely the case.

Like father, like son? In the case of Rick and Jared Jones, that's definitely the case.

Originally from Gresham, Rick moved to Forest Grove in 1987 to attend Pacific University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education and a master's degree in physical therapy.

He worked at Tuality Hospital in Forest Grove before opening Cascadia Physical Therapy in 1999.

Jared grew up in town and was a three-sport athlete at Forest Grove High. He holds a degree in exercise and sports science from Oregon State University and a physical therapy doctorate degree from the University of Montana. He has worked at Cascadia Physical Therapy since 2009.

Both the Joneses diagnose and treat individuals who are recovering from orthopedic injuries and surgeries. For Rick, finding out about his patients' hobbies and interests is his favorite part of the job.

Jared said he likes helping relieve his patients' pain and improve their mobility. 'Seeing the 'ah-ha' moment on [someone's] face after a couple weeks of hard work, when they realize they can do something they were previously unable to do' is one of his high points.

Rick works frequently with local school athletic programs, and Jared has coached a number of youth sports in town.

In his spare time, he enjoys swimming, reading and fishing. His son gravitates toward camping, golfing and softball.
