Grade school and junior high school-aged youngsters interested in participating in track this spring - even though the North Clackamas School District has dropped its junior high programs - can still do so.
The Milwaukie Track Club will hold training sessions three days a week, and will assist athletes in entering weekend meets, beginning later this month, and continuing through the state and regional Junior Olympic meets in late June and early July.
'Kids ages 7-18 residing in North Clackamas School district attendance areas are welcomed to take part,' said Fred Crowe, who is heading up the program. 'I've already got 120 to 130 kids who say they plan to participate, and I've got five volunteer coaches.'
The registration fee is $50, and it covers a T-shirt and equipment, and registration with USATF.
Practices will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays at the Milwaukie High School track, beginning Monday, March 28.
Registration for seventh and eighth graders is scheduled at the Milwaukie High track from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, March 28-29. Registration for grade schoolers is planned for 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 1.
