Students from Reynolds Middle School in Fairview and Springwater Trail High School in Gresham will highlight their health initiatives from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 28, at the gymnasium at McMenamins Kennedy School, 5736 N.E. 33rd Ave.
FamilyCare Health Plans' first-ever Healthy Students Healthy Oregon gift program is providing $20,000 each to five schools, including Reynolds and Springwater, to help the selected student groups continue an existing project or launch a new one that promotes healthy lifestyles.
During spring and fall 2011, the student groups will implement their ideas, including building a new salad bar of healthy eating options, refurbishing an onsite garden to grow fresh vegetables, creating programs to track fitness and nutrition activities, promoting the benefits of drinking plenty of water and hosting workshops about relevant health topics for peers.
