Readers celebrate small stuff in Smallpressapalooza
Marathon book reading and discussion will be the order of the evening tonight when Powell's City of Books on West Burnside Street thinks small.
From 6 p.m. until closing time Powell's will celebrate Small Press Month with its fourth annual Smallpressapalooza.
Among the small press authors who will be reading and discussing their work will be Jason Breedlove, whose 'Jason Breedlove 1065131' is a memoir of the time he spent in prison in Iowa prior to moving to Portland upon his release in 2008, in fact, the very day he was released from prison.
The number, in case you haven't figured it out, was Breedlove's prison ID number.
Breedlove, a former meth addict who served three separate prison terms, has the 6:30 p.m. slot at Smallpressapalooza. Among the other authors will be local novelist Mykle Hansen, whose 'The Cannibal's Guide to Ethical Living,' billed as 'the story of a man who loves to cook and to eat, and of the men he loves to cook and eat.'
Two-time national poetry slam champion and former Portlander Anis Mojgani will be on hand to discuss his latest, 'The Feather Room.'
Portland resident Joe Biel, the man behind prolific Zine producer Microcosm Publishing.
The schedule of authors can be found on the Web at www.powells.com/events .
