Portland nonprofit Innovative Housing Inc. hopes to break ground next year on a 49-unit low-income apartment project on Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, a block from Irving Park.
Innovative Housing secured its first funding for the project in February, $975,000 from the Portland Housing Bureau. Next it plans to apply to the state for Low Income Housing Tax Credits and a Housing Trust Fund grant.
The project will feature one- and two-bedroom apartments for people earning 30 percent, 50 percent and 60 percent of the area's median income.
Innovative Housing says it will seek LEED green building certification, and employ strategies to conserve energy and water at the building, and offer on-site composting.
