St. Helens finishes fifth in NWOC field, improves scores by 26 strokes
It was only their second outing of the season, coming right after spring break, but the St. Helens Lions improved their scoring by 26 strokes Monday.
The effort gave St. Helens fifth overall in the Northwest Oregon Conference meet at the Glendoveer Golf and #8200;Course.
The biggest improvement came from Eddie Martinez, who was the top golfer on the day with a 75--37 on the front nine and 38 on the back.
'He played smart, hit the ball very solidly, putted well, and can still score better,' St. and #8200;Helens coach and #8200;Dave Lawrence said. 'All his effort and hard work is paying off.'
Second for the Lions was Taylor DeSchamps with 41s on the front and back sides.
'Taylor D. just played like he is capable of amd hos short game kept him scoring well. He batled all day long and that was a good sign of better things to come for him,' Lawrence added.
He said Colin Chiddick wasn't feeling welll and he struggled with his short game, keeping him from scoring better. He said Nathan Hunter and Ryan Edwards also improved and are hitting the ball well.
