Hilda Ruth Nielsen

Former Sandy resident Hilda Ruth Nielsen died Wednesday, March 23, in Portland. She was 92.

A funeral service was held Monday, March 28, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sandy. Interment was at Sandy Ridge Cemetery.

Hilda was born Dec. 3, 1918, in Hollywood, Calif., to Thomas and Lulu (Nelson) Hylton. Hilda attended schools in California, Idaho and Cathlamet, Wash., before moving to Eugene in 1930.

While her mother was working at a lumber camp in Tillamook, Hilda met Walter Harold Clark. They were married on Sept. 6, 1936, in Salem. They resided in Colton and began a family. In 1945, they moved to Idanha and operated a dairy farm. Harold and Hilda moved to Portland in 1947 and to Sandy in 1949, where they finished raising three daughters.

Hilda was a homemaker and a dedicated member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. After retiring, she and Harold enjoyed traveling, hunting, camping and spending time in Arizona. Harold preceded her in death in 1979.

In 1992, Hilda married Alexander 'Alex' Nielsen in Auburn, Wash. They made their home in Sandy, where Hilda was active in her church and at the Sandy Senior Center. Alex preceded her in death in 1999.

Hilda was devout in her faith and to her church. She loved Bible studies and oil painting. Until she was in her 80s, Hilda visited shut-ins and the elderly.

Survivors include her daughters, Lu Grimm of Stevensville, Mont., Ruth Taylor of Cook, Wash., and Jean Pierce of Woodland, Wash.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Evaline Geneva Webb

April 18, 1924-March 25, 2011

Sandy resident Evaline Geneva Webb died Friday, March 25, at her home. She was 86.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 31, at Sandy Assembly of God Church, 39800 E. Highway 26. A private burial was held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Evaline was born at home April 18, 1924, in Tuolumne, Calif., to Fred and Lena (Marker) Caldwell. When Evaline was an infant, the family moved to San Diego, where she was raised and educated.

While attending Escondido High School, she met Arthur Webb. Shortly after graduating high school, they were married Dec. 6, 1942, in Escondido. Art entered the Army the following month and served in World War II. After his discharge, they made their home in Stockton, Calif., and began a family. They moved to Antioch, Calif., seven years later.

Evaline was an art teacher for the Antioch recreation department. She had a great love for art and was well known for her watercolors. Evaline was active in her community; she co-founded the Delta Art Association in Antioch and was an honorary life member of the PTA. She was a longtime member of Sandy Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and by her son, Michael Webb, in 2005.

Survivors include her son, Richard Webb of Sandy; daughter, Loralie Mirati of Portland; sisters, Charlotte Hales of Virginia and Phyllis Platt of Stockton; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Leroy Meyer

June 21, 1937-March 27, 2011

Kenneth Leroy Meyer, a resident of Boring, died Sunday, March 27, in Gresham. He was 73.

Services are pending.

David A. Curtiss, a resident of Boring, died at his home on Sunday, March 27. He was 71.

A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday April 3, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 18090 S.E. Langensand Road. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 4, at St. Michael. A committal service with military honors will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 S.E. Mount Scott Blvd., Portland.

Sheila Scheffer, a former resident of Boring, died Monday, March 28. She was 59.
