Chief information officer worked at college since 2008
The Mt. Hood Community College Board has selected Michael Hay to serve as interim president when President John J. 'Ski' Sygielski departs on June 30 to become president at Harrisburg Area Community College in Pennsylvania.
Hay takes over as interim president July 1.
Hay joined the senior administrative team at Mt. Hood in late 2008 and serves as vice president of information technology and chief information officer.
He holds a doctorate in education from the University of Southern California, a master's degree in communications from San Diego State University and a bachelor's degree in speech communication from the University of Kansas.
Hay earned his associate degree in business administration from Santa Barbara City College.
'We are pleased the college will benefit from Mike Hay's significant leadership experiences,' said Brian Freeman, board chairman. 'For nearly three years, Dr. Hay has worked closely with Dr. Ski to enhance the operations of the college and knows this institution very, very well.'
Prior to joining Mt. Hood, Hay, a Navy veteran, served in senior leadership roles in private industry, nonprofits, start-ups and the military, including Kaiser Permanente, Gap Inc., SBC Datacomm and Pacific Bell.
Sygielski has served as president of Mt. Hood since July 2008.
