Farmers Market lands indoor home for April
Grand opening planned for First Friday April 1
Estacada Farmers Market Steering Committee member Skip Heberden announced on Friday a deal has been worked out for the use of the vacant building at 373 S. Broadway St. to house the Estacada Farmers Market throughout the month of April.
A special grand opening celebration is planned during the Estacada's First Friday event on April 1.
Heberden said the Estacada Farmers Market will open at its normal location at Third Street and Broadway Street on May 7, but until then, it will be operational during the month of April indoors in the building that formally housed the Painted Cupboard.
'We are trying to get hold of all our vendors right now to get them to participate in this,' Heberden said. 'Obviously the produce and nursery people won't have much to offer, but all of our craft and hobby people will be there.'
According to Heberden, the idea to house the market in the vacant building was brought to the committee by the Estacada Area Chamber of Commerce in hopes of generating more downtown traffic during the month of April.
He said if the building remains vacant, the market may continue to use the space as long as possible.
With the agreement finalized last Friday, Heberden said, organizers are rushing to put together the grand opening celebration during the First Friday event, and door prizes and fun for the entire family are planned, he said.
The grand opening will be held during regular First Friday hours of 5-8 p.m.
The Farmers Market will be open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, and is closed Sunday, April 3. It will be open both Saturdays and Sundays 10 a.m.-2 p.m. throughout the rest of the month.
