Man dies from gunshot at SE Portland apartment

UPDATE • Disturbance may have led to shooting

A 49-year-old man who died Thursday morning during a shooting at a Southeast Portland apartment complex was apparently shot during a disturbance inside the dwelling.

Portland police said Thursday afternoon that Vincent Lee Wyatt of Southeast Portland died from multiple gunshot wounds during a confrontation with 69-year-old Dale Lloyd Duncan, apparently because of noise in a neighboring apartment.

Police were called at about 9:12 a.m., March 31, to an apartment in the 8500 block of Southeast Bush Street, where they were told that a person inside the dwelling had been shot.

Officers went inside and found Wyatt's body. Duncan was was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.

According to police, Wyatt was visiting a neighbor at the time of the confrontation. Duncan knocked on the wall of the apartment because of loud noise, prompting a confrontation inside Duncan's apartment with Wyatt, who apparently pushed and threatened Duncan.

Police said Duncan grabbed a handgun and fired several shots, striking Wyatt.

The dwelling was near Marshall High School, which was locked down while police investigated the shooting.
