Senior Catron is named the tournament's MVP
Forward E.J. Singler hit a running jump shot with about 2 seconds remaining in the game to give the University of Oregon Ducks their first College Basketball Invitational title over the Creighton Bluejays, 71-69.
The victory came in the third game of a best-of-three series with Creighton, a Missouri Valley Conference squad from Omaha, Neb.
Oregon senior Joevan Catron scored 29 points in his last game as a Duck and was named the tournament's most valuable player.
It was the first season for Ducks' head coach Dana Altman, who was head coach last year at Creighton, and the first season for Oregon's new Matthew Knight Arena.
The CBI tournament, sponsored by Zebra Pen, began in mid-March with 16 teams from across the nation. Along the way, Oregon defeated Weber State 68-59, Duquesne 77-75, Boise State 79-71 and then Creighton in the three-game championship series.
