Lake Oswego boys and girls tennis teams blank Cavs
- Lake Oswego Review - Sports
The Lake Oswego boys and girls tennis teams each rolled to 8-0 wins over Clackamas to start league this year.
The girls team didn't lose a set and didn't face much of a challenge. Erinna O'Brien scored an easy 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles.
At No. 2 singles, Heather Aholt won the closest match of the afternoon in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
Blair Dozois and Claire Murphy also picked up straight sets victories for Lake Oswego.
Things were equally as lopsided in doubles. Kate Wardrop and Abby Meier won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.
Sophia Liu and Yasmine Genena won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles while the teams of Jane Zahniser and Caroline Dorman and Kelsey Fuson and Kelly Crist also made quick work of their opponents.
The boys team cruised against the Cavaliers as well.
It was a truly dominating performance in singles for the Lakers as, in four matches, the team only dropped a combined three games.
Scott Goldner won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Reid Martin won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles while David Furman and Aaron Cheng each won 6-0, 6-0.
All four doubles teams also won in straight sets although the Cavaliers gave them a bit of a fight.
Dan Cohns and Austin Winters won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles and Jack Smith and Andrew Tymchenko won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
At third doubles, Jack Mertens and Mark Engelberg won a close first set and then easily won their second while, in the closest match of the afternoon, Brian Knees and Alex Gatter won 7-5, 7-6 at No. 4 doubles.
The team also knocked off a strong OES team 5-3 last week. Goldner, Furman, Martin and Cheng swept through the singles bracket again with little trouble.
OES proved very strong in doubles, winning three matches although first and third doubles both went to three sets.
At No. 4 doubles, Mertens and Engelberg clinched the match for the Lakers with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
