LO boys golf team wins its third straight league tourney

Some halfway decent weather and a familiar course suited the Lake Oswego boys golf team very well on Monday.

Playing at Oswego Lake Country Club, the Lakers posted their best team score of the season, shooting a 296 with four players scoring in the 70s.

Lake Oswego cruised to its third straight victory, giving itself a comfortable cushion in the league standings.

"With the weather we've had to play in I'm very pleased with where we're at. I think the scores will keep going down as the sun starts to come out," Lake Oswego boys coach Sandy Sutherland said.

Max Carter shot one of just two under par rounds in the tournament, carding a 71 to finish in second place behind West Linn's Zach Foushee.

Adam Ruben was next for the Lakers, shooting his best round of the season with a 73. That round included shooting a 34 on the back nine.

"For the second week in a row he really kept himself in the round and ground until the final putt. He showed a lot of maturity," Sutherland said about Ruben.

Clayton Madey also had his best round of the season, turning in a 75 while Jackson Kintzinger shot a 77.

"It's been very competitive within our team this season which has been a lot of fun," Sutherland said.

Lakeridge also shot its best scores of the season, shooting 335 on Monday.

Cody Benko cracked 80 for the first time this year, shooting a round of 79.

Russell Seashore was next for the Pacers with an 80 while David Zhou shot an 86.

Next up for the boys teams is a tournament on Monday at Rose City.

In the girls, tournament, Lake Oswego took third place once again, topping its best team score of the season by one stroke.

Kelsey Moede carded the team's low round with an 88. Alexa Huewe tied her lowest round of the season with a 90 while Jessica lee also had her best round, coming in with a 101.

For Lakeridge, Connie Zhou shot an 81 to crack the top five individually.

West Linn won its third straight tournament with Canby taking second again.

The girls will play their next tournament at Arrowhead on Monday.
