Rose Quarter, Oregon Convention Center and Lloyd Center areas affected
MAX light rail service and street traffic will be disrupted in the Rose Quarter, Oregon Convention Center and Lloyd Center areas this weekend because of Portland Streetcar construction.
According to the Portland Bureau of Transportation, track installation for the Portland Streetcar Loop Project will interrupt TriMet's MAX service to the Convention Center and Northeast 7th Avenue stations on Saturday and Sunday, April 23 and 24.
Streetcar track work is being done at the intersections of Northeast Holladay Street at Grand Avenue and Northeast 7th Avenue this weekend. TriMet will be providing shuttles between the Rose Quarter Transit Center and Lloyd Center/Northeast 11th Avenue stations to move riders around the closed stops.
The track work will begin at 2 a.m. on Saturday and end at 5 a.m. Monday, April 25.
The general public will also be affected by other transportation restrictions in the area during the MAX interruption. Holladay will be closed to the general public from Grand to 7th, Grand will be reduced to two lanes at Holladay, and 7th will be closed to southbound traffic from Northeast Multnomah Street to Northeast Pacific Street. Local access will be maintained, and bicycle and pedestrian access will be maintained with limited detours.
Lane restrictions and the MAX service interruption are due to the installation of track crossings for streetcar. Crews will be working all hours during the closure to have streets and MAX reopened for the Monday morning commute.
The traveling public is asked to follow signs and use caution in work zones.
MAX riders should plan ahead for travel around the construction area. The last Red Line train to the Portland International Airport will leave Lloyd Center/NE 11th Ave at approximately 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Riders should allow 30 extra minutes of travel time to Portland International Airport. MAX Green Line trains will not serve Portland Transit Mall stops during the service interruption. Yellow Line trains will continue to serve 5th and 6th avenues downtown throughout the weekend. Green Line riders headed east should board a Yellow Line train and transfer to shuttles buses at Rose Quarter TC.
The Portland Streetcar Loop Project is a 3.3-mile double-track extension of the existing streetcar system from the Pearl District in Northwest Portland, across the Broadway Bridge and south to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. It will eventually run over a new Willamette River bridge to connect to the southern end of the streetcar line on South Waterfront
