CARSON, Calif. - The Los Angeles Galaxy scored twice in the first 7 1/2 minutes Saturday and went on to defeat the Portland Timbers 3-0 at the Home Depot Center.

Troy Perkins, back from an injury, made his first start of the season for the Timbers and gave up goals to former Southridge High star Chad Barrett and U.S. soccer star Landon Donovan as Portland feel in a big hole.

Barrett drove home a shot from just inside the box in the fourth minute.

Donovan, after being pulled down by Rodney Wallace as he streaked inside the last line of Portland defenders, easily converted a penalty kick at the 7:28 mark.

Donovan, who had missed three games with a knee injury,

In the 87th minute, Donovan scored on a header from Juan Pablo Angel. Barrett also got an assist.

Los Angeles improved to 4-1-3 (15 points), while the Timbers fell to 2-3-1 (7 points).

Portland's next game is at home against 2010 MLS finalist Real Salt Lake on Saturday, April 30.
