Office hours expanded for convenience
One of the city of Sandy's New Year's resolutions must be to make trips to City Hall more convenient.
That's because starting Wednesday, Jan. 2, City Hall will stay open an extra hour - until 6 p.m. Offices are open Monday through Friday.
'Sandy Bernhardt, our utility clerk, noted that it is sometimes difficult for customers to deal with utility billing issues or to pick up a SandyNet modem because of their work schedules,' City Manager Scott Lazenby wrote by e-mail.
The Sandy Police Department has stayed open until 6 p.m. for several years, Lazenby said, 'and a lot of citizens take advantage of that.'
Karen Evatt, the new city customer service supervisor, knew about the police department's later hours and met with city staff to see if the same thing could happen at City Hall.
The added hour won't cost the city anything, Lazenby said.
'The customer services staff have agreed voluntarily to flex their schedules so that someone is always here until 6 o'clock,' he said. 'It's better than banks.'
City offices are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, starting Jan. 2. City Hall is closed weekends. For more information, call 503-668-5533 or visit www.cityofsandy.com.
