Tigard man dies of self-inflicted gunshot wound

TIGARD - Tigard police are investigating a fatal shooting that took place at a New Year's Eve party early Tuesday morning.
Officers were called to a home located at 7916 S.W. Bond St. on a report of a man being shot. They arrived within minutes and discovered that Robert Sean Gillroy, 32, had been shot with a handgun.
When police arrived at the home at about 4 a.m., there were approximately 10 to15 people inside.
'Statements to police indicated that a New Year's Eve party had been taking place at the location,' said Jim Wolf, police public information officer. 'Based on witness information, the victim died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. That it was an accident is very plausible.'
The victim was transported from the scene by ambulance to a local hospital, where he died a short time later.
'Witness statements and evidence obtained at the scene indicate that alcohol had likely played a role in events which led up to the shooting,' Wolf said.
Police investigators are continuing to look into the shooting.
