The Sherwood High girls basketball team suffered its first loss of the 2007-2008 season.
And the setback came against the same team that handed the Lady Bowmen their final loss of the 2006-2007 season.
Sherwood moved to 10-1 on the season after falling 48-45 to No. 2 ranked Willamette in the championship game of the Willamette Holiday Tournament, held Friday and Saturday at Willamette High School.
Willamette, which defeated Sherwood 54-50 in a Class 5A state playoff game last year, improved to 9-1 on the season with its win over the Lady Bowmen on Saturday.
Senior guard Alex Francis was Sherwood's leading scorer in Saturday's game with 16 points. Junior Lauren Codling added nine points and senior Megan Van Noy scored seven.
Sherwood opened the tournament Friday by scoring a 42-38 win over Silverton.
The Sherwood boys team won two of three games it played at the Summit Tournament, held last Thursday through Saturday at Summit High School in Bend.
Last Thursday, the Bowmen fell 45-41 to Corvallis in a tourney opener. Junior Colin Wester had 12 points to lead Sherwood.
On Friday, the Bowmen bested Lebanon 81-46 behind a 34-point outing by Wester. Seniors Elliot Loucks and Kole Krieger each scored nine points for Sherwood in that game.
Sherwood finished tourney play with a 70-57 victory over Bend on Saturday. Senior Connor Rumpf led Sherwood in that game with 23 points. Hester had 22 and Travis Lutes scored 18.
The Sherwood girls will be back in action Tuesday when they host Wilsonville in a key Northwest Oregon Conference game starting at 7:15 p.m. The Sherwood boys open league play Jan. 11 at St. Helens.
