WRESTLING - The Scots claim 10 of the last 11 bouts to earn the win
Sandy's wrestling team rushed to a 16-0 lead, but couldn't hold off David Douglas in the middleweights during a 45-22 loss Thursday, Jan. 3.
Sandy jumped out to an early lead when Trent Rutledge (119 pounds) scored an 11-0 majority win to give the Pioneers an early lead.
'I thought our lower weight wrestlers moved well and executed a strong match,' Sandy coach Robert Paul said. 'After that, we couldn't kick it into gear and get things headed in our direction.'
But Douglas regrouped to win the next six bouts, dominating the middleweights with pins by Chad Almond and Kyle Fung. The Scots' added another key 16-15 victory when Sean Craig scored a near-fall at the buzzer to take the 140-pound bout.
Douglas finished the victory by winning the last four matches of the night.
