Oregon City will join State of Cities event

North Clackamas Chamber hosting the Jan. 23 event

The incorporated cities of the North Clackamas County area are all experiencing one similar thing - growth and how to deal with it. There are issues like: industrial land versus retail or commercial land; housing; jobs; transportation and other infrastructure needs.

These will be topics of discussion at the State of Our Cities luncheon on Wednesday, Jan. 23, when questions and issues such as annexation, business growth, infrastructure and roads are discussed by mayors of the incorporated cities of the North Clackamas County Chamber area.

Each of the cities, Damascus, Happy Valley, Milwaukie, Gladstone and Oregon City, have different needs, growth issues and dynamics. Each is different from the other in years of incorporation, size, assessed valuation, taxation, school districts, per capita income, size of business district and infrastructure. Some can grow, others are constrained.

The mayors of each city have been invited to participate in the Jan. 23 Forum to discuss celebrations and issues. Each will discuss their area and will respond to questions posed by Public Polity Task Force members and the audience.

The North Clackamas area served by the North Clackamas County Chamber of Commerce covers the incorporated cities of Damascus, Happy Valley, Milwaukie, Gladstone as well as large areas of unincorporated Clackamas County. This year Oregon City has been included. Kaiser Sunnyside Hospital is sponsoring the event, which will be held at the Oregon Institute of Technology gymnasium at 7726 SE Harmony Road in Clackamas.
