Information from the public safety column comes from the records of the Lake Oswego Police Department. Police recently filed reports on the following incidents:
1/1/08 1:30 a.m. Jonathan David Bergstrom, 21, was arrested on suspicion of having a warrant for failure to appear in court.
12/31/07 12:26 p.m. At Carman Oaks Retirement Center, a resident in his or her 90s pushed a caregiver. The police report said the subject had dementia.
12/29/07 9:41 p.m. Gregory Jen West, 22, was arrested on suspicion of DUII on Carman Drive.
12/30/07 12:49 a.m. Nicholas Debakker, 18, was arrested on suspicion of DUII on Overlook Drive. He was also charged with second-degree criminal mischief and reckless endangering.
12/30/07 1:38 a.m. Robert John Gent, 26, was arrested on suspicion of DUII on Brookhurst Drive.
1/1/08 11:59 a.m. Juan Arellano Fuentez, 62, was arrested on suspicion of DUII.
12/28/07 1:34 p.m. A woman reported that her neighbor had been at her home and stolen a gold ring.
12/30/07 4:06 p.m. Employees at a video store on North State Street were allegedly using another company owner's Dumpster. An officer warned the video store manager of theft of services.
12/31/07 2:38 p.m. An employee at a business on Boones Ferry said checks had been taken from his office. An officer determined that checks from four accounts had been taken.
12/28/07 8:37 a.m. A person walking past a number of cars on Indian Trail noticed that there was garbage on the ground. The person thought the drivers may have been littering. An officer responded and found two bags of fast food wrapper near an intersection where the cars allegedly were.
12/28/07 9:56 a.m. A woman said she wanted to speak with an officer regarding ongoing problems with harassing phone calls that are sexual in nature.
12/28/07 11:07 a.m. On Condolea Drive, a man caught a gray and black border collie and wanted someone to come get the dog. As an officer was en route, the man found the dog's owner.
12/28/07 12:18 p.m. A woman who was packing up her stuff at the apartment she shared with her boyfriend requested help from the police because the man threatened to beat her up if she left him. She was advised to call back if the boyfriend showed up.
12/28/07 3:13 p.m. A boat covered with a tarp had been parked in front of a home on Lakeview Boulevard for more than a month. An officer advised the boat owner on the city ordinance (See Ask-A-Cop question on this page).
12/28/07 3:37 p.m. There was an ongoing problem of loud rap music coming from a home on Crestfield Court, as well as large parties.
12/28/07 3:40 p.m. At Lake View Village, several skateboarders were seen in the lower level lot.
12/28/07 4:12 p.m. A silver Mercedes was seen driving around a traffic circle on Carman Drive, over and over.
12/28/07 4:56 p.m. A woman believed her ex-husband had siphoned gas out of her car and tampered with her phone. An officer checked out the phone and found that it had been cheaply assembled.
12/28/07 5:22 p.m. On Kruse Way, extra patrols were requested because people were dropping off Christmas trees in a Dumpster that had been rented by the Boy Scouts for a different recycling event.
12/28/07 10:16 p.m. A red Toyota pick-up was parked too far from the curb on Fifth Street. It was an ongoing problem. Police determined there was enough space for emergency vehicles to get through.
12/29/07 10:06 a.m. There was a hang-up call to 9-1-1. Police determined it as a call being placed on AT and T to Scotland.
12/29/07 3:22 p.m. At The Ram, a guest punched a lottery machine and broke the glass. The state lottery office asked police to create a report and case number.
12/29/07 7:39 p.m. At the Albertson's on South State Street a woman received threatening text messages from an ex-boyfriend, who said he would kill her new boyfriend. The text sender was contacted and told not to contact his ex-girlfriend.
12/29/07 9:54 p.m. A dark sedan was parked at a trailhead for 10 minutes, near Brookside Road. A lighter in the car was seen going on and off. The vehicle left before police got there.
12/30/07 11:45 a.m. On Laurel Street, a man called to say that his neighbors were cutting down a tree. An officer found that the tree cutter had been hired by a homeowner to trim the branches.
12/30/07 4:33 p.m. An officer assisted a motorist in pushing his vehicle into a parking space, after the car had run out of gas.
12/30/07 6:14 p.m. Two teenage girls were seen looking into unlocked vehicles on South State Street and trying door handles. An officer caught up with the girls, who said they were on their way home.
12/30/07 6:41 p.m. There was a city-owned hybrid car parked on A Avenue with the dome light on. An officer found the car was locked and left a note on it.
12/30/07 9:40 p.m. At Westridge Elementary School, a vehicle was seen driving on the grass and on the playground. An officer checked and found there were lots of limbs in the area and the vehicle may have been a maintenance truck.
12/30/07 11:12 p.m. Cars were seen racing up and down Boones Ferry Road. One was a Volvo with a loud muffler. An officer located the Volvo driver and gave the driver a warning.
12/31/07 1:09 a.m. A woman claimed that her ex-boyfriend, who was with her at the time she called police, had just sent a text message to her new boyfriend in California, threatening the girlfriend. An officer contacted the ex-boyfriend and found all was OK and no threats had been made.
12/31/07 3:47 a.m. A man rang a doorbell on Twin Creek Lane and said he was at the wrong house. He was wearing a heavy jacket and baseball cap.
12/31/07 1:22 p.m. At Westlake Meadows, a person reported that a Seasonal Waterfowl Crossing sign had graffiti on it. The person suspected that the graffiti was possibly an attempt to solicit for members of the Supa Fly ganstas. An officer removed the graffiti.
12/31/07 2:22 p.m. A man was seen cutting down trees on railroad property near Lakeview Boulevard and he didn't appear to be a railroad worker. Police contacted the man and found he had been hired by the railroad to clear brush and small trees away from the tracks.
12/31/07 4:04 p.m. A man asked to speak with an officer about his missing son.
12/31/07 7:23 p.m. Three threats were sent to a man via text messages. The text sender was contacted by police and told to stop sending the messages or face telephone harassment charges.
12/31/07 8:11 p.m. A caller said there were three explosions in the area around Eaglecrest Drive.
12/31/07 9:43 p.m. A woman on Greentree Avenue said someone had just thrown mud balls at her window.
12/31/07 9:57 p.m. Three females in a dark-colored sedan on Kruse Woods Drive were seen running a stop light and stop signs.
12/31/07 11:07 p.m. Police warned the owners of a home on Springbrook Court about having a party that was too loud.
12/31/07 11:58 p.m. Christmas decorations in a person's yard were vandalized. Police found a group of people in the area around Vermeer Drive, who was setting off aerial fireworks. The fireworks were destroyed at the scene.
1/1/08 12:11 a.m. A large, white German shepard was walking in traffic on Boones Ferry Road. The person who found the dog did not want to keep the dog, which had no collar or ID. The dog was told to go home and left the scene, as if he knew where to go.
1/1/08 12:36 a.m. An upset female called police, requesting psychiatric help. A man was heard in the background, saying not to call. She was voluntarily transported by AMR.
1/1/08 1:31 a.m. A group of people was outside a woman's home on Oswego Summit, singing her name. The woman said they sounded drunk. She was unsure exactly where they were but they kept calling her name and were being vile, she said. Police couldn't find them.
1/1/08 1:44 a.m. A woman was on the side of Country Club Road with a bunch of bottles that she was breaking. Police couldn't find the woman, but they found the broken glass.
1/1/08 7:44 a.m. Construction work was being done at a new condo project called 555 Second Street. Workers were installing a rock wall and were told to stop work.
1/1/08 7:51 a.m. Outdoor Christmas decorations at a home on Quarry Road were vandalized and strewn on the road.
1/1/08 12:51 p.m. Someone threw an egg at a woman's car while she was driving on State Street.
12/28/07 1:57 p.m. There were several unauthorized charges on a woman's credit card by an unknown person.
