Teachers to vote on tentative contract

The proposed contract includes a 4 percent pay raise each year for the next four years

Today (Thursday) and Friday, about 700 teachers in the Tigard-Tualatin schools will decide whether to accept or reject the tentative contract agreements presented after almost nine months of negotiations with school district officials.

Tigard Tualatin Education Association bargaining Chairman Mike Weinandy called Wednesday's meeting for association members at Tigard High School the real showdown.

Members met to discuss the particulars of the tentative agreement which includes 4 percent pay raises each year for the next three years and also gets rid of the district's two-tiered approach to health insurance coverage for teachers.

Weinandy said he has received both positive and negative feedback from teachers about the tentative agreements.

The Tigard-Tualatin School Board of Directors is set to approve the tentative agreement at its regular meeting tonight (Thursday) on the contingent on the association members also approve the agreement.
