BASKETBALL: Boxers drop both ends of a weekend doubleheader in eastern Washington
Pacific won its Northwest Conference season opener against Lewis and Clark on Jan. 2, but that victory seems a distant memory after the Boxers dropped two games on the road this weekend to fall to 1-3 in league play.
Pacific (2-10, 1-3) withered under a three-point barrage from Whitman last Friday, then gave away an 11-point second-half lead against Whitworth on Saturday to make it three straight losses after the big win over Lewis and Clark.
'We missed some shots that we have been making more of recently, and on the road every basket is critical,' said Pacific head coach Sharon Rissmiller. 'We didn't shoot the ball like we have been at home.'
Whitman (10-3, 4-0) shot the lights out on Friday, making 11 of 18 attempts from three-point range to bury the Boxers, 70-57.
The next night against Whitworth (8-5, 3-1), Pacific allowed a double-digit lead to slip away in the second half. Whitworth used a 14-2 run to storm back and notch a 66-53 victory.
Pacific will try to rebound at home this weekend with a game against Linfield on Friday and George Fox on Saturday.
