Fifth-grade Rangers win Gladstone Classic

Seven Estacada fifth graders drove the lane past Milwaukie, Gladstone and Parkrose on their way to winning the 2008 Gladstone Classic basketball tournament at Kraxberger Middle School earlier this month.

The Estacada fifth-grade tournament team-Mitch Nation, Josh Shannon, Alex Barstad, Willie Blankenship, Sam Blankenship, Cadence Anderson and Adam Gant-attend school at all three of the area grade schools. They are coached by head coach Dave Nation and assistants Jim Blankenship and Aaron Gant.

The boys pounded Milwaukie, 41-29, in the first round of the tournament on Saturday, Jan. 5. They marched past Gladstone, 37-27, Saturday afternoon. They returned Sunday for the championship game against Parkrose. The Estacada boys won 43-34.

The tournament win came in their second tournament of the season. The first tournament, Estacada finished 1-3. They are scheduled to play at the Molalla Invitational this weekend, Jan. 19 and 20.
