WRESTLING - Gresham wins half of the night's bouts by fall
The Gresham wrestling team stayed perfect in the Mount Hood Conference after steam-rolling David Douglas 51-15 on Thursday, Jan. 17.
The Gophers scored pins in half of the weight classes, taking a commanding 24-6 lead when Jorge Padilla, Tim Constien and Derek Myers each won by fall in the lightweight divisions.
Padilla needed less than a half-minute to finish his 103-pound foe, while Constien scored four takedowns in the second round to build a 19-5 lead at 112 pounds before pinning his opponent early in the final period.
The Gophers clinched the team victory with six bouts remaining after Alex Rojas scored the quickest fall of the night, scooping his opponent into the air and slamming him flat to his back just 16 seconds after the opening whistle.
Braiden Newton (140), Derek Docken (160) and Wyatt DeRemer (215) also scored pins for the Gophers.
