Kingsmen second at eight-team tourney

Veysey, Kuznetsov and Rau earn runner-up honors

MILWAUKIE - The Rex Putnam Kingsmen earned runner-up honors at the Joe Stewart Invitational wrestling tournament, hosted by the Kingsmen on Saturday.

Colton tallied 145 points to earn top honors in the eight-team field. Putnam (106) edged Mountain View of Vancouver (105-1/2) and Lakeridge (101-1/2) for second place.

Rounding out the scoring were: Forest Grove 94, David Douglas 91, Marshall 66 and Franklin 22.

Lakeridge 215-pounder Tyrell Fortune was named the tournament's outstanding wrestler. Fortune pinned Tanner Powell of Colton in the 215-pound title bout.

Tyree Fortune was also a champion for Lakeridge, winning by major decision over David Douglas' Peter Novozhennikov in the title bout at heavyweight.

Putnam had wrestlers earn runner-up honors at 103 (Jared Veysey), 125 (Emil Kuznetsov) and 140 (Eric Rau).

And the Kingsmen had five wrestlers finish third - Scott Lantz (103), Alfredo Aguilar (135), Nate Dutson (152), Leland Nash (160) and Saul Aguilar (HWT).

'Putnam wrestled really well,' said Putnam coach Mark Lynch. 'We wrestled with a lot of heart and intensity….

'Our jayvee and freshmen are starting to perform and really push the varsity team. We look forward to continuing the intensity at the district championship.'
