Putnam girls find a lid on their basket
LAKE OSWEGO - The shooting slump that plagued Putnam's girls basketball team in a Jan. 11 loss to Lake Oswego continued last week, as the Kingsmen got blown out by Lakeridge 58-42 and by Clackamas 89-48.
Junior point guard Miranda Martine (24 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals) was the only Putnam player who could find the basket at Lakeridge, as the Kingsmen scored on only 12 of 56 (21 percent) of their shots from the floor.
Led by 5-11 senior wing Kai Schmidt (22 points), the Pacers forged a 35-25 lead by halftime.
Martine (14 points) and Holly Kennedy (14 points) were the only Kingsmen who could find the basket in last Friday's game with Clackamas.
'We got out-hustled all night,' said Putnam coach Mike Pomerenke. 'I was impressed by Clackamas - their quickness and athleticism.'
Putnam (6-10, 1-4) hosts South Salem in a nonleague game this Friday, before finishing up the first half of league on Tuesday, with a home game with Oregon City (12-2, 4-0).
