Rangers get first tournament win of the season
Estacada wrestlers place first in Pacific Rim Tournament
Four Estacada wrestlers in the Pacific Rim finals last Saturday were enough to give the Rangers their first tournament championship of the season.
The Rangers (211) outscored Scappoose (166), Willamina (147.5) and 13 other teams from Oregon and Washington at the Seaside tournament on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 18-19.
Cody Anders (140) was the Rangers only individual champion. He beat Keiffer Beaudet of Nestucca 4-3 in the tournament finals. Garret Heinetz (103), Joel Stalcup (145) and Micheal Strickland (152) also wrestled for individual titles.
Strickland, ranked second in the 145-pound class, lost 13-6 to Jacob Murray of Monroe, Wash. Willamina's BJ Wilson pinned Stalcup in 3:35. Heinetz lost toBlake Markva, of Rochester, Wash., by fall in 1:34.
Steven Pinto (103), Craig Morgan (125), Jackson Hicks (130) and Kyle Allen (HWT) all finished third in their respective weight classes.
Sammy Stafford (112) and Chris Worthington (125)-beat by teammate Morgan-placed fourth. Nathan Teel (135) placed fifth and Cam Liebelt (152), Lane Wilshire (160) and Kylan Umphress (171) placed sixth.
The Rangers will host Molalla in a dual meet at home on Thursday, Jan. 24.
