The West Linn swim teams earned a split in last week's meet against Putnam. The Kingsmen field a surprisingly strong team this season with the boys squad giving Lakeridge a square earlier in the season.
West Linn's girls handled Putnam, winning 98-62 but the Kingsmen boys earned an 87-77 victory over the Lions.
The girls won all but two events on the afternoon. The Lions got off to a strong start with a win in the 200 medley relay. The team of Josie Sells, Jessica Broberg, Whitney Finnerty and Rosa Bhutarak got the meet off on the right foot.
Hayley McCrae followed with a win in the 200 freestyle and Bhutarak picked up her first individual victory in the 200 individual medley.
Broger then cruised to a victory in the 100 butterfly while Sells captured the 100 freestyle.
Sells swam in three consecutive events. After winning the 100 freestyle she was on the second place 200 freestyle relay team along with Kaytlin Coffman, Anna Koll and Sara Lord.
She then swam her best event, the 100 backstroke, and won it easily.
Finnerty followed with a win in the 100 breaststroke and the 400 freestyle relay team of Mary Milton, Coffman, Alex Nahmie and Karleen Schuler won the final event of the day for the girls.
On the boys' side, Putnam's depth won the afternoon.
West Linn picked up its first win in the meet's third event when Alex Jonsson won the 200 IM. But the Lions would only win two more events.
Tom Lord took second in the 50 freestyle and Brian Laderonte was the runner up in the 100 freestyle. Arthur To also recorded a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke.
But, even though Putnam had clinched the meet at that point, the Lions finished well, winning the last two events of the day.
Kevin Sellers won the 100 breaststroke just one event after competing on the 200 freestyle relay.
Finally, the 400 freestyle relay team of Jonsson, Anders Koll, Tom Lord and Hans Farnbach won the final event.
West Linn had a non-league meet against McKay on Wednesday but results were not available at press time. The Lions will take on Clackamas on Jan. 31 before districts in February.
