OC gearing up for youth lacrosse

OREGON CITY - Registration is underway for Oregon City Youth Lacrosse.

Registration for boys in grades 3-8 runs through Friday, Feb. 15.

Registration forms are available at www.oregoncitylax.webs.com, or at Eastham Community School.

The completed forms should be mailed or delivered to Eastham Community School, 1404 Seventh Street, Oregon City 97045.

Registration fees are $125 for boys in grades 3-6 and $145 for boys in grades 7-8.

Jerseys are provided but participants must secure their own equipment.

A new player/parent informational meeting will be held in the cafeteria at the old Oregon City High School Jackson Street campus at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7.

Practices begin March 17; games run April 3 through June 7.

John Bates continues tough

OREGON CITY - John Bates of Oregon City continued tough for Clackamas Community College's wrestling team on Jan. 18.

Bates won handily in dual meets with Highline Community and North Idaho College. He pinned Zach Corbett of Highline, and he recorded a 10-2 decision over Tim Ofield of North Idaho.

The Cougars defeated Highline 32-18, avenging an early loss. They wrestled shorthanded, forfeiting at three weights, in a 34-10 loss to North Idaho.

Baseball camps start Saturday

CLACKAMAS - Clackamas High School's baseball program will host a series of camps for first through eighth graders over the next four weekends.

Advance registration is preferred. Registration forms are available at: www.clackamasbaseball.com.

A hitting camp is scheduled in the high school gymnasium and at the Big House batting facility from 9:30 to noon this Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 2-3). Open to boys in grades 1-8, the fee is $25 for one day or $45 for both days.

Instruction in infield and outfield play is planned in the gymnasium and Big House on Sunday, Feb. 10. Instruction times are 3 to 5 p.m. for first through fourth graders and 5:15 to 7:30 p.m. for fifth through eighth graders. The fee is $20.

Pitching instruction will be provided in the Big House on Sunday, Feb. 17. Clinic times are 3 to 5 p.m. for fifth and sixth graders, and 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. for seventh and eighth graders. The fee is $20.

A catching clinic will be held in the Big House from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24. The fee is $20.

A discounted fee of $90 is available for youngsters interested in participating in all five camps.

Gladstone baseball sign-ups Saturday

GLADSTONE - Gladstone Junior Baseball has set registration and tryout dates and times for the upcoming season.

Registration is scheduled for Kraxberger Middle School from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2; from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5; from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7; and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9.

The registration fee is $115.

Tryouts are scheduled for Gladstone High School in mid-March. Tryouts for youth in grades 2-4 will be held on Saturday, March 15; tryouts for youth in grades 5-8 will be held on Sunday, March 16.

Glads seek youth coaches

GLADSTONE - Gladstone's youth football program is looking for coaches for the 2008 youth tackle football season.

The program involves youth in grades 3-8 playing on four teams.

No experience is necessary, but applicants need to have an understanding of the game.

The youth football program hopes to complete its coaching staff by the end of March. Player registration is in April.
