Sherwood gets victory at Wilsonville

Basketball: The Lady Bowmen hand the Wildcats their first league setback

WILSONVILLE - The Sherwood girls basketball team handed Wilsonville its first league loss of the season while moving itself into title contention at the same time.

The Bowmen moved to within a game of first-place Wilsonville by scoring a 62-50 win over the Wildcats in a Northwest Oregon Conference game played Tuesday at Wilsonville High School.

Sherwood improved to 6-2 in NWOC games with the win (15-3 overall), putting the Lady Bowmen in a tie with Hillsboro for second place in the league standings, a game back of Wilsonville, which fell to 7-1 in league play.

Junior post Lauren Codling led Sherwood to the victory with a team-high 23 points. Senior post Brooke Davis added 12 points and senior point guard Alex Francis scored 10. Wilsonville's Melinda Ingalls led all scorers with 24 points.

Before the win Wilsonville, Sherwood bested Liberty 60-33 in a game played Friday at Sherwood. Senior Megan Van Noy scored 14 points and Codling scored 12 points.
