Snowboarders start off strong


Area snowboarders fared well at the opening Sunset League high school event, a banked-slalom race, held Jan. 19 at Mt. Hood Meadows.

Tualatin took first place in the boys team standings with a total time of 3 minutes, 32.688 seconds. Members of the Tualatin first place team were Jordan Doane, Kevin Able, Zach Savasta and Zach Krahmer.

Sherwood's Tyler Holstrom placed second in the individual standings with a best-run time of 52.422. Doane was third with a mark of 52.51. Erik Nelson of Tigard was fourth with a time of 52.8. Nick Graue of Westview placed first in the boys individual standings with a time of 51.261.

On the girls side, the Tigard team of Jordan Teach, Heather Liebman, Kelsey Culbertson and Maddie Culbertson placed first with a total time of 4:00.055.

Teach was second in the individual standings with a mark of 58.535. Liebman was third at 58.746, Culbertson was fourth at 1:00.403 and Fletcher was fifth at 1:02.371.
