Portland Beavers

The parent San Diego Padres play the Los Angeles Dodgers in Beijing, China, on Friday and Saturday. Former Bevo Justin Germano, a No. 5 starting pitcher candidate for the Padres, will start Friday.

Randy Ready, current Portland manager, and Rick Renteria, former Beaver skipper, will be part of the coaching contingent. Pitcher Wade LeBlanc, catcher Nick Hundley and infielder Matt Antonelli are on the roster.

• Minor league games start this weekend. Pitchers Josh Geer and Cesar Ramos, who are expected to wind up in Portland, already have been sent to minor-league camp.

• Pitcher Tim Stauffer was scratched from the China trip with a sore shoulder.

• First baseman Brian Myrow, the Pacific Coast League's top hitter last season (.354), hit .545 in his first eight spring training games.

• Outfielder Vince Sinisi could be out almost three months after breaking his right (nonthrowing) wrist while attempting to make a sliding catch and banging into Drew Macias. He was to have surgery Monday. It's the latest of several injuries for Sinisi - a broken left arm, knee surgery and a rib removed being the major ones.
