Cheer teams take home trophies

Lake Oswego High School's cheer team took second place in the United Spirit Association's national competition small varsity show cheer intermediate division, held this past weekend in Anaheim, Calif.

According to co-coach Terri Shiek, the team was very excited for the competition and very prepared. The team's dedication to their sport was very evident, as one girl completed the final competition with a broken foot.

'They had just qualified at the Regional Competition in December and won the state competition Feb. 1,' she said. 'So they were feeling very prepared for the competition.'

This marks the first time the team has competed at the national competition.

The same weekend, Lakeridge High School was competiting in the UCA West Coast Championship in Hollywood, Calif. They placed fourth in the Medium Varsity Division.

'The team had a flawless performance and was thrilled with the fourth place trophy,' said cheer coach Christine Cooper. 'We look forward to continuing to represent Lakeridge High School and the Lake Oswego community at future competitions in 2008-2009.'
