Area softball teams pick up early season wins
Area softball teams wasted little time in picking up early season victories.
The Tigard High School softball team started its season with a win on Monday as it ran to a 12-5 victory over Central Catholic in a non-league game played at Tigard High School.
Tigers senior Heidi Pizer blasted a home run in the victory and junior pitcher Ashley Suter struck out 13 Central Catholic batters.
Tualatin notched its first victory of the season on Tuesday as it won 3-0 against Aloha in a non-league game played at Tualatin High School.
Timberwolf senior shortstop Jordan Skinner, senior second baseman Danielle Roisom and senior first baseman Janelle Cromie combined to turn a school-record three double plays in the win.
Cromie also hit a triple in the victory while Skinner and Emily Tietje had two hits apiece. Sophomore Kathryn Sampson and senior Suzanna Espinoza combined to pitch the Wolves to the shutout victory.
The Wolves battled Putnam to a 2-2 tie on Monday before the game was called due to rain and field conditions. Tietje had two hits and two RBI in that contest.
The Horizon Christian softball team evened its season record at 1-1 by scoring a 15-1 win over Portland Christian in a game played Tuesday at Portland Christian High School.
Gracie Dempster recorded 15 strikeouts in picking up the pitching win. Breah Phillips hit a triple for the Hawks.
